"The result of this passionate exploration is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin — unique, extraordinary and remarkable as the elusive creature P.J. has occasionally glimpsed in the fields, the Drumshanbo Jackalope" (producer). With its fresh citrus taste and spicy notes of Asian botanicals, Gunpowder Tea, or zhū chá, translates literally as "pearl tea," a type of green tea that has been slowly dried, its delicate leaves carefully rolled into shiny pellets, resembling gun powder. Gunpowder Tea dates as far back as the Tang Dynasty (618–907).
The ever inquisitive P.J. Rigney released the highly unique Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, in 2016. Its recipe fuses Asian botanicals with the local Irish ones, yielding a harmonious bold, bright flavor with a slight spice, the Gunpowder tea botanical taking center stage.
